Indoor Areas

In the past, to control humidity at indoor crowded places like theaters, opera houses, swimming pools, ice rinks, malls etc, the standard practice is to replace the air in an indoor room with fresh air from the outside. Especially, in cold climates, replacing the indoor humid air with cold and relatively dry outside air means rising up the bills. Outdoor air is great for comfort relatively to the warm and humid air inside the room, but conditioning the new air is expensive in terms of energy consumption. Another big minus effect of high moisture content in the air is that  condensation of water vapor on metal fixtures, exterior walls or glass surfaces leads to the formation of mold and corrosion. When this happens, it will eventually lead to damage to the building, resulting in costly renovation and business interruptions.

Global warming, rising energy prices and an increased awareness of energy efficiency has led our civilization to a greater focus on lowering the energy consumption by all means possible, including dehumidification processes. This has led to today’s major focus on HVAC industry to recirculating as much air as possible, investing money and time on R&D to increase the efficiency of the machine parts or recovering heat in heat exchangers. In our day, considering these factors, controlling humidity at indoor crowded places with replacing it with outdoor air is not a viable option anymore.

HEALTHY + COMFORTABLE

At indoor swimming pools for example, conventional method to dehumidify the air is using a condense dehumidifer, which means air is cooled down to its dew point to condense the water vapor to liquid water, then discharge it to the outdoor atmposhere by using a ventilator. This kind of practice is not very efficient compared to the work it does and consumes enormous amount of energy, so it is not a viable solution either comparing to the liquid desiccant technology.
